This page is in memory of my Shadow and Dj, 2 of my first mastiffs that made me fall head over heals in love with the breed. Also Buda and Zena the dad and mom of Asa and the grandparents of all my beautiful pups. Buda and Zena both crossed the Rainbow bridge this year both at the age of 10.This first picture was my original Shadow Aka Southhaven's Eclipse with my daughter Taylor. I know they are all in a better place now but I will always miss them. None of them were dogs they were all my children.
Now we have Wally sharing his water with Miss Aonyx. Wally was my 16 year anniversary present from my husband. Isn't he gorgeous? Just in case you're wondering Wally is the mastiff fountain.
I guess now I should start out telling you a little about us and how we first fell in love with mastiffs. I saw my first mastiff over 20 years ago and it was love at first sight. Before I got into mastiffs I always had dogs, mostly Heinz 57's but I did breed labs before I got my first Mastiff. Once I met my husband we started breeding and showing quite a bit and I became a member of the MCOA and also was a foster home for MCOA rescue. We did this for a few years but after we moved to Florida my Champion male. Ch. Lyons Lair DJ died and we were both so broken hearted we decided to get out of mastiffs for awhile.We never sold all of our dogs but we cut back to 2 and quit showing and breeding. In 2006 I decided I couldn't take the puppy withdrawals any longer and I finally got 2 new females to have the occassional litter of pups. Where we live we can't do any commercial breeding but that is fine with me. As long as I can have the love of my dogs and an occassional pup to satisfy my puppy breath withdrawals I'm good. We have no kennel dogs here only spoiled rotten babies. When I do have pups, they start out in a playpen next to my bed and after a few weeks end up in what used to be my dining room right off my kitchen. They are hand raised and handled from the minute they are born and are very well socialized when they go to their new homes. My pups parents have not been OFA'd however Asa's mom was 10 when she died as was Asa's dad and neither had any hip problems. I believe one of the best signs of hip dysplasia and alot of medical problems is watching the parents and knowing the bloodline. Alot of breeders will disagree with me but I don't consider myself "a breeder" Every once in a while I have pups for people who are wanting to enrich their lives with these awesome dogs. Alot of people want a mastiff but can't afford a 2500.00& up dog. My pups are all vet checked and are guaranteed healthy at the time of the sale. The buyer has 7 days to take the pup to his or her own vet and if any problem is found the pup can be returned for a full refund. After the 7 days I do offer a 1 yr guarantee against any genetic defect that causes any life threatening disabilities.
Above is a picture of Asa Welcoming his dad home after being gone 2 weeks. As you can see from the picture Asa is around 190 pounds of pure muscle. He has a hug for anyone coming in the door that can actually hold him up. Asa is the perfect example of what I believe a mastiff should be. Big enough to make people think twice when they meet him and loving enough to have a hug and kiss for everyone he meets. Below you will see Asa's pedigree.
